World A-panel condemns Israel for its raid on Iraq

September 28, 1981

A divided International Atomic Energy Agency condemned Israel for its June 7 attack on the Iraqi nuclear plant but delayed for a year a decision on ousting the Jewish state from the organization. The agency approved a resolution cutting off technical assistance and monetary aid to Israel.

Iraq, its Arab allies, the Soviet bloc, and the third world supported the resolution. Israel, the United States, and Latin American nations voted against it, while most of Western Europe abstained.
