Solidarity, Warsaw have new row on media access

Poland's Solidarity free trade union resumed talks with the government Thursday on demands for access to the mass media, plunging both sides into another bitter dispute.

Printers, who have been on strike on the northern city of Olsztyn for more than a week, threatened to call colleagues out on a new national strike to back a campaign for a hearing in the press and on radio and TV in time for Solidarity's national congress. But Communist Party leader Stanislaw Kania said that he would not let the media be silenced and also warned that further attempts to stage street demonstrations could lead to an explosion.
