Ferris Wheel

August 28, 1981

Tilting precariously In the topmost seat An elderly woman, Hung in the balance, scans The universe. Far In the distance looms The church spire, calm Yet forceful. There is her house Sheltered by trees as old Or older than herself. Satisfied at length That all is well With her octogenarian world, She smiles as the wheel descends, Then casually walks away A being from outer space.
