Jimmy Carter is about to stretch his political legs. He will be heard in taped radio endorsements for Andrew Young for mayor. This balances political accounts of sorts. During the 1976 campaign, then-Congressman Young's backing helped Carter win strong support among blacks. Carter's message is aimed at voters who might still be a bit miffed that Young gave up a seat in Congress to be Carter's man at the UN post.

Young needs all the help he can get. A recent poll shows Young and state Rep. Sidney Marcus tied as front-runners, though it indicates Young has a better chance in a runoff.m
