Three Mile Island workers to get US exam retesting

Thirty-four operators with the undamaged Three Mile Island nuclear reactor will be retested because of a cheating scandal that tainted the results of a federal examination to certify operators earlier this year. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says it will retest the operators in September.

The commission shut down the reactor after the 1979 accident that caused damage and contamination at its sister unit. A licensing board is preparing a decision on whether the undamaged reactor is safe to restart. Part of the decision deals with the competency of reactor operators.
