Salvadoran rebels claim control of province town

A guerrilla radio broadcast claimed that rebels had established a "revolutionary" government in a northeastern town under a lebel offensive spreading over the picture.

Newspaper reports said the armed forces were on a "general state of alert" and troops were being rushed to Morazan to counter what the military described as the rebels' biggest push since a January offensive in which 2,000 were killed.

Meanwhile, an American human rights group, Freedom House, charged that Soviet-bloc nations were arming leftist gerrillas here and issued a stated supporting US military and economic aid to the embattled nation's junta.
