South has a large share of 'death row' inmates

More than half the 714 prison inmates awaiting execution in the United States last year were in three Southern states, Florida, Texas, and Georgia, Justice Department statistics show. The South as a whole had more than three-quarters of the condemned prisoners, according to figures released by the department.
