Silence may be golden as chorus asks for pay

The chorus of the Bavarian State Opera chose a unique way to go on strike, mouthing the words of the songs without emitting sounds during a performance of Richard Wagner's "Die Meistersinger." Backing a demand for higher pay in a protest that could be called a "mouth-in," the chorus struck in the third act.

As expected, the audience reaction was most unf riendly, a spokesman at the Munich National Theater said.
