Gromyko assails US arms of Pakistan and China

July 30, 1981

Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko said in an article published here that Moscow could not stay aloof from the Reagan administration's plans to provide arms to China and Pakistan. Writing in the monthly Soviet Land, Mr. Gromyko said India is justified in believing that the US arming of Pakistan would upset the balance of forces in the region and erode normalization of Indo-Pakistani relations. He said no nation is threatening Pakistan's security and repudiated the "so -called Soviet threat."
