Decisions, decisions -- as if the Supreme Court didn't have enough of them, now it will have to decide a delicate matter of protocol when the current male justices ar joined by Sandra O'Connor. It seems the most junior justice is traditionally the one to perform errand and housekeeping duties when the justices sequester themselves for discussion without aides present. To ask Mrs. O'Connor to do so might smack of the old days on committees when it was customary to say things like "Would one of you gals take notes?"

But wouldn't it be more sexist notm to ask her to do what junior justices before her have done? As long as she has a vote on the outcome, whatever it is, there should be no complaints. Anyway, the problem will fade when she is not the only woman on the court.
