Talks to end postal strike in Canada to resume

July 22, 1981

Negotiators for striking postal workers and the federal government were to resume discussions, and mediator Alan Gold said talks toward ending a national postal strike were "going well." But there were few signs the parties were any nearer a settlement than they were when the 23,000-member Canadian Union of Postal Workers walked off the job June 30. The union, without a contract since Dec. 31, has demanded a wage increase, a 17-week paid maternity leave, and improved healt h and safety conditions.
