Afghan rebels reported holding area near Kabul

Antigovernment rebels in Afghanistan have captured the important town of Gulbahar, north of Kabul, and appear to control much of the countryside in Kabul and Parwan Provinces, Western diplomatic sources said. Gulbahar's bazaar area was destroyed when rebels wrested the town from the control of government forces last week and there were many casualties, th e sources said.
