July 8, 1981

Astronouts Joe Engle and Richard Truly began a 30-hour simulation of the second space shuttle flight Monday, for the first time simulating in-flight use of the mechanical arm that will unload the shuttle payload bay.

The simulation of the second flight also includes the first simulated use of a payload. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Office of Space and Terrestial Applications has put togeth er a package to show practical shuttle uses.
