The mail comes to a halt as Canadians go on strike

July 1, 1981

Canada's postal services were halted Tuesday when 25,000 counter clerks and sorters went on strike. The union stopped work after talks with the government broke down Friday with both sides far apart over the union's terms for a new three-year contract.
