US-W. German salary gap narrows

June 29, 1981

Compensation for West German executives is catching up with that of their American counterparts. According to a study by Kienbaum Compensation Advisory Services, Gummersbach, West Germany, gross compensation of US executives on average is now only some 10 percent above that of their German peers. The gap was considerably greater only a decade ago.

For instance, an executive in charge of sales would on average earn $110,000 in the United States and $101,000 in Germany.
