International banks OK plan to defer Polish debt

June 26, 1981

International banks agreed on the outline of a compromise for rescheduling $2 .37 billion of Poland's commercial debts due this year. A statement after a two-day meeting on Poland's request for deferment of payments indicated that differences between US and European banks had been mostly bridged, although they were still short of a definitive agreement. It said the banks would need to meet again next month to fini sh the restructuring proposals.
