EPA hopes to simplify job of meeting clean-air rules

June 23, 1981

The Environmental Protection Agency intends to reduce the time and paper work necessary to comply with air pollution regulations, its new administrator said. Anne M. Gorsuch said the administration is committed to reducing air pollution, but believes present regulations are to be complicated and take too long to enforce.

"The permit process can add two to three years of lead time to the construction of a manufacturing plant," she told the Air Pollution Control Association. "Time is money, and such delays are definitely inflationary."

She said changes in the Clean Air Act would be prop osed to streamline regulations and procedures.
