For the record (4)

June 12, 1981

South African Prime Minister Pieter Botha met with US Deputy Secretary of State William Clark for a working breakfast in Cape Town. Mr. Clark's visit is the most significant since former Secretary of State Cyprus Vance came in October 1978 in search of a solution for an independent SouthWest Africa (Namibia). The main thrust of the talks is how to achieve an acceptable independence agreement for the former German colony.
