Barbara Ward, British economist

Barbara Ward, the British economist, who passed on Sunday, was a professor at Columbia University, author of several books, and unofficial adviser on foreign economic policy to Lyndon Johnson. She also served as assistant editor of The Economist magazine and a governor of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Most recently Miss Ward was president of the International Institute for Environment and Development.

Through her writings and lectures she sought a fairer sharing of resources between rich and poor nations. In 1980 she was given India's Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Award for Interna tional Understanding.
