Transpacific hospitality is running hot and cold in preparation for secretary of State Alexander Haig's swing through the Far East. In light of recent strained Japanese-American relations, Tokyo has asked Secretary Haig to scrap informal plans to visit there.

Meanwhile, Peking attaches such importance to Mr. Haig's visit that a long-awaited plenary session of the ruling Communist Party will be postponed to accommodate the Haig schedule.m
