May 15, 1981

The White House said President Reagan was standing firm on his proposal for a 10 percent cut in income taxes in each of the next three years despite reports that he was willing to accept a compromise. The tax proposal is part of an economic recovery package including reductions in government spending.

Faced with reports that Mr. Reagan was having second thoughts about his tax plan, White House spokesman Larry Speakes quoted him as saying: "This is not time for compromise ."
