Stanislaw Gucwa, head of Poland's pro-Communist Peasant Party, has resigned in the face of a revolt by party members who attacked him for opposing the creation of the Rural Solidarity union for private farmers. Other members of the party's leadership also resigned during a meeting of its national executive. The shake-up coincides with a grass-roots movem ent in the Communist Party also aimed at sweeping away the old guard.
