US puts damper on offer for a US-Soviet meeting

US officials say there are no prospects at present that President Reagan will take up Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev's renewed offer for a Soviet-American summit meeting.
UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim said he discussed the topic of summit meetings during a meeting in Moscow with Mr. Brezhnev. He said Mr. Brezhnev had repeated his suggestion, first made in February, for a meeting with Mr. Reagan.
Mr. Reagan is said to feel a meeting is not feasible until Soviet-A merican relations improve and considerable progress is made on amrs control and other issues.
