Agnew owes Maryland $248,000, judge rules

A judge ruled that Spiro T. Agnew owes the State of Maryland $248,753 for kickbacks plus interest he received from highway contractors while governor of Maryland and vice-president of the United States. The award by Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Bruce Williams was only $30,000 less than the amount demanded in the civil suit filed by the state and three Maryland taxpayers. The award included $101,235 in intere st. An appeal is expected.
