Wishes from Wu

April 17, 1981

Today's busy schedule is interrupted by the attempted assassination of President reagan. I was shocked at the terrorist act. We left Washington only yesterday. And the city left us an impression of charming and liveliness, with all sorts of kites flying in the sky and flowers blossoming. But only a day later it became a city of panic and uncertainty.A terrorist hand struck again, not against an individual but against peace and the civilization that all the people in the world deeply cherish.

You Americans are a great people. You will survive this just as you did in the past crisis. I give you my best wishes . . .
