S. African police seize passport of black bishop

Security police confiscated the passport of Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu, an outspoken opponent of apartheid. Bishop Tutu, a black, told Reuters two plain clothes policemen called at his Soweto township home and ordered him to hand over his passport. The bishop, general secretary of the South African Council of Churches, angered the white South African government recently during a tour of the United States and Western capitals in which he called for a halt to foreign inve stment in the republic.
