Los Angeles lofts Bradley to gubernatorial prospect

April 16, 1981

Tom Bradley won a landslide victory to a third term as mayor of Los Angeles and moved into an excellent position for a possible race next year to become the nation's first black to be elected governor. Defeating former Mayor Sam Yorty by a 2-to-1 margin, Mr. Bradley, one of the nation's highest-ranking black officials, became the first mayor in Los Angeles history to win a third term without being forced into a ru noff election.
