April 14, 1981

India, anxious about increased US military aid to neighboring Pakistan and delays in American shipments of nuclear fuel, is sending two senior officials to Washington in a bid to improve relations.

Foreign Ministry Secretary Eric Gonsalves, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's chief North America expert, will be accompanied on the mission by Atomic Energy Commission chairman B. N. Sethna. They will ask whether the United States is using the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan as an excuse to build up military forces around the globe, Mr G onsalves said.
