US, Canada railways join for New York-Toronto link

Amtrak and Via Rail Canada announced they will jointly operate a direct daily train between New York and Toronto beginning April 26. The train, to be known as the Maple Leaf, will depart from New York's Grand Central each day at 8:45 a.m. Eastern standard time, arriving in Toronto at 8:30 p.m. EST. Southbound, the train will leave Toronto at 9:05 a.m. EST and arrive in New York at 8:50 p.m. EST. The one-way fare will be $63, in US currency. The Maple Leaf will use American crews between New York and Niagara Falls and Canadian cr ews for the other portion of the journey.
