Russian 'rights' activist gets 5 years at hard labor

April 3, 1981

Human rights activist Tatyana Osipova was sentenced to five years in a labor camp and five years' internal exile after being convicted of anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda. The sentence passed on Miss Osipova, a member of the Helsinki Human Rights Group, was less than the maximum seven years' hard labor and five years' banishment provided under the Russian Federation Code. But the exile sentence was two years longer than that requested by the prosecution.
