Argentine leader says he seeks to revive politics

Argentina's new President, Roberto Viola, says his government will work toward normalizing political and union activities, banned since the military took power in a 1976 coup. General Viola issued the pledge in his first address to the nation as successor to Gen. Jorge Videla at the helm of a so-called national reorganization process. The new military ruler said legislation to restore political and union activities would be introduced during his period of office. But the former Army commander made clear that restoration of civili an rule would take time.
