April 1, 1981

Argentina's new President, Roberto Viola, says his government will work toward normalizing political and union activities, banned since the military took power in a 1976 coup. General Viola issued the pledge in his first address to the nation as successor to Gen. Jorge Videla at the helm of a so-called national reorganization process. The new military ruler said legislation to restore political and union activities would be introduced during his period of office.
