Islamic mission to renew effort to end Gulf war

March 30, 1981

A high-level Islamic peace mission was due here today (March 30) in a renewed effort to end the Iran-Iraq war, just a month after its last bid failed. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, quoted by the Pars News Agency, announced that the mission headed by Guinean President Ahmed Sekou Toure would come to Tehran from the Saudi Arabian city of Jiddah.

The reason for the mission's return to work has not yet been made clear, and officials on both sides of the conflict kept up a st ream of statements opposing any compromise.
