Britain moves to extradite Biggs, the train robber

Britain moved to extradite Ronald Biggs from Barbados after police here announced the fugitive "great train robber" had been rescued from kidnappers aboard a yacht off the Caribbean Island. The bizarre plot was still shrouded in mystery, but it seemed that Bigg's 16-year flight from British justice was at an end.

Early Tuesday, the man identifying himself as Biggs was still at police headquarters describing his abduction from a cafe in Rio de Janeiro and his eight-day voyage.

British High Commissioner (Ambassador) Stanley Arthur told Reuters Britain would begin extradition proceedings a s soon as it was formally established the man was Biggs.
