Know of wings

March 25, 1981

What would life be, did we not know of wings -- Even in paradise we watched the flight of bat and butterfly, of bee and bird; they followed us to exile out of Eden. Perhaps their Eden is not fire-guarded; free, they can roam the world, and, like the wind, go where they list -- while we wake in the dark at awesome rushing of great wings, and know of angels, and our spirit learns to soar above all walls, all darkness into light -- The geese fly high tonight -- unerringly they know their way -- while we wait for a s tar.
