Connecticut Klan rally erupts in violence

March 23, 1981

About two dozen hooded Ku Klux Klan members were pelted with rocks and bricks here Saturday in a violent confrontation with about 200 counterdemonstrators. At least eight people were injured, one seriously. At least two policemen were among the injured in the violence outside the Meriden City Hall, where the Klan had rallied in support of the police.

The protesters included members of the International Committee Against Racism , a self-avowed, violent anti-Klan group. The state group is made up mostly of young blacks and Hispani cs from the inner city.
