Anti-US protesters greet Reagan aide in Stockholm

March 6, 1981

The largest anti-American demonstrations in Stockholm since the Vietnam war March 5 greeted Herman Cohen, special emissary sent to Sweden by the Reagan administration to explain US policy in El Salvador. Chanting demonstrators hung an effigy of President Reagan in front of the Parliament and cheered as speakers condemned US involvement in Latin America.

Mr. Cohen, chief of the intelligence and research department of the State Department, emphasized that he had come only to present the US point of view and to hear Sweden's.
