Israeli mayor takes over West Bank town duties

The first Israeli mayor on the occupied West Bank today hailed the granting of civil powers to Jewish settlements as a major step toward full annexation of occupied Arab land. El Qanah, strategically placed about 18 miles northeast of Tel Aviv, was the first of three West Bank Jewish settlements to become full-fledged municipalities this week. Several mo re settlements will be granted the same powers soon.
