Salvadoran guerrillas used ID to fake claim, says US

February 27, 1981

The Pentagon said Thursday that Salvadoran leftist guerrillas apparently used the identification card of a former US Air Force sergeant to fake their claims that an American military adviser had been killed in combat in El Salvador. The Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front coalition said in a communique in Mexico City that a US Army sergeant identified only as "Reassy" was killed in November in northeastern Morazan Province.

The Pentagon spokesman said that ID card had been traced to Jerome RAcine, who was separated from the Air Force at Albrook Air Force Base, Panama, Nov. 12, 1980, after four years as a radio operator.
