Border dispute heats up between Ecuador, Peru

Peru warned Ecuador Sunday of revenge attacks is Ecuador launched new incursions across their disputed border. Military sources said the Peruvian armed forces had been fully mobilized after the latest flare-up on the jungle frontier in the Condor Mountains. At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce anounced that Ecuador had suspended all Peruvian imports.

The Peruvian ultimatum was included in a communique from the presidential palace which claimed the capture of three Ecuadorean emplacements inside Peruvian territory. It added that a Peruvian reconnaissance helicopter was shot down on Friday and that its copilot was killed. The fighting shatt ered a three-week ceasefire agreed to on Feb. 2.
