Nonaligned parley strives to frame a note of unity

February 13, 1981

Nonaligned foreign ministers were to make a final attempt to preserve in a common declaration the uneasy unity of the 96-member movement. The four-day meeting was due to end Thursday, but a conference spokesman, speaking as hard bargaining went on to hammer out a final declaration, said it might be extended until Friday morning. He said the conference was moving toward a consensus on most contentious issues, -- soviet intervention in Afghanistan, Vietnam's military presence in Cambodia, and the Iran-Iraq war.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan rejected UN proposals for a summit with Iran and Pakistan, saying Soviet troops will not be removed until it reaches agreements in separate talks with each neighbor.
