Philadelphia school strike settled as pact is OK'd

February 6, 1981

Striking blue-collar workers of the Philadelphia School District ratified a new contract that should put nearly a quarter-million students back in school starting today (Feb. 6). About 80 percent of the voting membership of Local 1201 of the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers voted "yes" for the pact -- although it gives them no wage increase in the current fiscal year.
