Debate on hostage issue urged in Iran's parliament

February 6, 1981

Twenty-three Iranian deputies formally requested a parliamentary debate on the American hostages, as a political row over their detention and the terms of their release gathered momentum. It was the latest stage in a dispute over the hostage issue which came into the open as soon as the 52 Americans were set free. The text of the request was published by two newspapers backing President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, who has questioned whether Iran achieved all it wanted in return for the hostages release.
