US gave data on Stealth to aid Carter, panel says

February 4, 1981

Information about the supersecret Stealth aircraft was disclosed last summer to bolster President Carter's reelection chances, not to limit the damage of news leaks, a House subcommittee report said. "The release of information about Stealth in the formal press conference was done to make the Defense Department and the administration look good in an election year, and not, as claimed, for the purposes of damage li mitation," the report said.
