Federal hiring freeze backdated to Nov. 5

January 26, 1981

The Reagan administration has backdated its tough federal hiring freeze to Nov. 5, placing in jeopardy thousands of promised jobs, the Washington Post reported. One of the first actions President Reagan took immediately after his inauguration was to freeze all federal hiring. Despite some criticism that the freeze cannot be backdated into another president's term, the new guidelines have been signed by the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget.
