Nonwhite school boycott at an end in South Africa

A nine-month-old school boycott by nonwhite students in South Africa virtually ended after pupils in one of the worst-hit areas decided to suspend their protest against racial inequalities in education. Black student groups in Port Elizabeth agreed to return. In a conciliatory gesture, the government announced it had extended the deadline for registratio n until Feb. 11.
