Libya says it has raised troop levels in Chad

Libya announced it had boosted its military presence in Chad as African leaders meeting here formally condemned Libya's proposed merger with the central African country. Libyan Foreign Minister Abdel Salam Tiriki said that "Chad President Goukhouni Woddei warned us of a direct threat of invasion by France and the Sudan. As a result, we have reinforced our advisers." He did not confirm how many Libyan troops were stationed in Chad, saying only that "their numbers are suffi cient to defend Chad against any aggression."
