Dublin plans a big push in transport, TV, industry

January 14, 1981

The Irish government launched a $3.2 billion investment plan to improve basic services such as transportation and telecommunications and to encourage industrial growth. Finance Minister Eugene Fitzgerald said the plan was unprecedented in Ireland because of its scale and the involvement of the private sector in work usually carried out by the state.

He added that the improvements in communications and services should increase Ireland's credit rating abroad and are in line with advice from the European Common Market and the Intern ational Monetary Fund.
