Uganda appeals to Kenya for reconstruction aid

January 6, 1981

Ugandan leader Milton Obote appealed to Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi to grant all possible assistance to aid the reconstruction of his country's economy. The two East African Presidents were meeting for the first time since Mr. Obote took office last month. Relations between the East African neighbors have been strained in the past, but a cordial atmosphere for the meeting was set when Mr. Moi hugged Mr. Obote at the border town of Malaba, to cheers from thousands of Kenyans.
