The east Lebanese town of Zahle was quiet after several days of heavy fighting between Syrian troops and Christian militia forces. The state-run Beirut Radio said sporadic shooting broke a truce between the two sides during the night of Dec. 23-24, but there was no resumption of artillery shelling, which killed at least 12 people earlier in the week. Security sources said neither side had withdrawn from the town, 30 miles east of Beirut.
