Stiffer requirements

Freshmen entering state and land-grant universities in the early 1980s are more likely to have fewer options and more requirements in general education that did their counterparts in the 1970s. Universities across the country are stiffening their requirements in an effort to increase fundamental student skills in English and reasoning and broaden knowledge of the humanities, science , and the social sciences, according to the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges.
